Manager/Supervisor
BECO, a vertically integrated real estate company in Hampton Roads, Virginia is looking for a self-motivated Controller with a sharp eye for detail. You’ll join an experienced accounting team – having spent 13 years with BECO, our current CFO is retiring in 2026. Our Controller has been promoted to CFO and will provide leadership and mentoring to this role. Together, you’ll improve systems and processes, solve problems, and drive results. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial transparency and, operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
As Controller, you will be responsible for leading accounting operations and financial reporting across BECO’s business units. You’ll serve as a collaborative thought partner to the executive team and department leaders. Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, producing financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Coordinate the budgeting and forecasting process across departments and entities, including analysis of budget variances and performance metrics monthly.
  • Manage and refine financial policies and internal controls to support compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Partner with the CFO to manage cash flow, financing activities, and capital planning.
  • Supervise audits, tax filings, and compliance-related reporting across all business lines.
  • Support operational leaders with financial insight and decision-making tools to help drive profitability and growth.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
 Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; consolidation experience is a plus.
  • Accounting and tax experience with real estate investment, property management, and/or construction accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, consolidation accounting, budget planning, forecasting, cash management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrates a balance of confidence, initiative and humility — a professional who brings expertise to the table while remaining open to feedback and committed to collaborative teamwork
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Preferred:
  • CPA or Master’s degree
  • Working knowledge of HUD/FHA insured multifamily housing
  • Experience using AI or similar automated tools for process efficiencies
